'The Child in the Family' - Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori developed her teaching Method by observing how children learned.  In
1907 she opened her first 'Childrens House' -  creating for them what became known as the 'prepared environment'.

The development of the first 6 years of a child's life are crucial. During this period of growth the foundations are being put in place which will support their progress into childhood. Montessori linked the design of her didactic materials to the child's own ordered environment of Mother Nature - where they develop spiritually, emotionally and physically. Her Method helped to build neural pathways and promote whole-brain development - enhanced by the child's innate desire to learn.

Scientists unlocked the secrets of brain and neurological development to confirm what Montessori knew - that children construct their own learning.

The child has an inbuilt goal setting mechanism - the parent.  It wants to be like them and do the things they do.  Therefore, it is up to the adults to prepare their environment to ensure the nurturing that is required to enhance their growth - otherwise the child will only know how to act on the will of others.

Many of the Montessori activities can be created in the home.  Practical life exercises help to develop the child's hand/eye co-ordination, fine and gross motor skills, and to nurture independence.  Helping with the cooking, housework, shopping - being involved - this is how children learn and develop.

It is up to us to give the child the possibility to develop his own nature.

The 'Life Garden' enables you to work at home with your child's innate ability in developing their skills.
